What's The TikTok Creativity Program?

TikTok introduced the Beta version of its Creativity Program in late February 2023, presenting a fresh approach to financially rewarding creators for providing valuable content to its platform.

Creators in the U.S., U.K., France, and Germany will move to the Creativity Program from the existing Creator Fund.

This program seeks to address the dissatisfaction expressed by some creators regarding the pennies they were getting paid from the TikTok Creator Fund.

TikTok has made bold claims, asserting that through the Creativity Program, creators have the potential to earn up to 20 times more than what they were making through the previous fund.

While it may be too soon to draw conclusions, the prospect of such significant financial improvement is undoubtedly enticing for many content creators. This could prove to be a lucrative opportunity for many creators looking to turn this side gig into a full-time job.

How Does The TikTok Creativity Program Differ from The TikTok Creator Fund?

The TikTok Creativity Program

Unlike the Creator Fund, The Creativity Program has preferences. This program focuses on longer videos, and as we said, TikTok estimates creators can make over 20 times what they did before. However, this mainly benefits creators who prefer longer content.

The Creativity Program differs by allowing monetization only for videos longer than one minute. This shift has received mixed reactions from creators, which is odd coming from the platform that started the short-video format hype train.

One limitation of the Creativity Program is that creators can only monetize videos with royalty-free music, deviating from TikTok's usual trend of using copyrighted music. This aligns with TikTok's profit strategy, as videos without licensed music contribute more to the platform's revenue.

On the positive side, unlike the Creator Fund, is accessible to a far larger number of creators across the world since far more countries are included and continue to be added.

And with the promise of making more with the program, I mean the bar is on the floor with the Creator Fund so it’s only up from here, this seems to be like a move in the right direction.

What Are the Requirements to Join the TikTok Creativity Program?

The TikTok Creativity Program

Although the specific monetary details of TikTok's Creativity Program remain up in the air with a lot of unknowns, the platform has provided a set of criteria for creators interested in joining the program. To be eligible, creators must:

Age Requirement: Be at least 18 years old.

Follower Count: Have a minimum of 10,000 followers.

View Count: Accumulate at least 100,000 real video views in the last 30 days.

Account Status: Maintain a personal account in good standing, business accounts are not accepted into the program since this is a creator initiative.

Adherence to Guidelines: Abide by TikTok's Community Guidelines.

Location: Be located in a region where the TikTok Creativity Program Beta is available, the U.S., U.K., Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, and Korea. TikTok has plans to expand the program to additional regions in the future.

The program's increased geographic reach opens up new possibilities for content creators to leverage their popularity and creativity for much-deserved financial rewards on the platform.

While the payment system details remain unclear, statements from a network spokesperson suggest creators with videos garnering qualified views will receive higher remuneration.

The Creativity Program Beta aims to boost creators' revenue potential, yet specifics about its operation and payouts are limited. TikTok mentions that the beta offers the potential to earn up to 20 times more than the Creator Fund. That means that creators could earn between $4 and $8 for every 1,000 views, which is a big improvement.

Notably, a creator couple, Devin and Hunter Cordle, saw substantial earnings, making $24,000 in June and over $87,000 in July. This is a great jump from what numbers we have seen with the TikTok Creator Fund.

This could mean creators can effectively earn a living wage from TikTok alone. However, there are some drawbacks, including the requirement for longer videos, limitations on using copyrighted music, and eligibility criteria that might be seen as high for newer creators.

While the program shows promise, its actual impact remains to be seen as more creators engage with it. But one thing is for certain, with many platforms offering their own funds, you don’t have to choose one over the other.
